Joybird has over 40 different fabric collections, each with multiple colors and textures available. They also offer furniture in leather, velvet, and microfiber.
Joybird's fabrics do not contain any harsh chemicals, and their fabrics and foams do not contain any flame retardants.
Joybird's Safeguard fabrics are a performance fabrics collection engineered to withstand kids, pets, and everyday life. These fabric options are soft, stain-resistant, long-lasting, durable, and most importantly, easy to clean.
Their dedicated page shows you all of the Safeguard fabric options you have to choose from, some spill tests they've done on the fabrics (believe me, they're pretty impressive), as well as an instructional video on how to care for your Safeguard fabrics.

Caring for your fabrics
When it comes to Joybird's fabric care, they break it down into two main cleaning types: Solvent-based cleaners, and water-based cleaners. Here are their specific instructions:
Many of the fabrics are listed as W, or water-based cleaner, however the more delicate of fabrics are often listed as S — meaning you should never clean them with water.

Campaign's fabric options are more limited than the other players in the online furniture space, however that's not the question here — we're looking at the quality of the fabrics, and that's where Campaign shines.
Right now, they offer their sofas/seating in Flat Weave, Merino Weave, and Brushed Weave fabric collections.
Campaign's Flat Weave has the natural fiber look and feel of cotton. It comes in 7 colors — the ones shown, a white, and a navy.
Campaign's Merino Weave is a pretty good choice for a classic looking home, and is generally softer to the touch than the Flat Weave.
If Merino Weave is soft, the Brushed Weave is like a baby bunny. Campaign's softest fabric, the Brushed Weave comes in louder, bolder colors for more exciting spaces. Comes in the colors you see below, plus a meridian blue and almond white.
Campaign's fabrics are made up of 97% polyester and 3% nylon. The seat cushions are made of high resiliency, flame-retardant-free, polyurethane foam, and the back cushions are made of polyester fibers. All materials are 100% recyclable.
Like the other players in the space, Campaign will send you up to 5 fabric swatches before you make your purchase, so you can see the fabric in person. You can request your swatches here.
Campaign's fabric swatches are 6x6 inches.
Campaign fabric customer reviews
We did some digging through the customer reviews to find some feedback on the fabric. Here's what we found:
"We love the color. The cushion/support is comfortable for both me and my husband (I like softer couches, he likes firmer couches.) The only downside is that the fabric (Brushed Weave) is not as durable as our last couch. Our cats like to run across our couch, and their claws snag the fabric. The silver lining is that we'll be able to easily replace the fabric when the time comes."
- Stephanie R.
"The Harvest Yellow Color does a wonderful job hiding my dog's hair, but unfortunately shows dirt easily. I've been spotting cleaning with OxiClean, which does the job, but it's annoying. Not sure if it is the material or just the color."
Other than that, the reviews were generally positive when it came to Campaign's fabric quality and color options.

BenchMade Modern makes custom sofas, beds, chairs, and other furniture — and like they say on their website:
You can't have a custom sofa without the perfect fabric.
The good news is that BenchMade Modern has over 90 available fabrics and leathers to choose from, allowing you to complete your perfect room with just the right sofa or love seat.
With 2 Standard fabric collections, 5 Premium fabric collections, and another 2 high performance collections, BenchMade Modern seems to have a fabric to fit everyone's needs.
One of the main tests that BenchMade uses to determine the durability of their fabrics is testing the "rub count" of each fabric. The rub count is what sets the primary distinction between their premium and standard fabrics.
BenchMade claims that their standard fabrics have a rub count of approximately 50K, while their premium fabrics have a rub count of 70K to 110K. However, since any rub count over 25K is rumored to be suitable for home use, you should be good opting for either or.

Some promising & insightful reviews:
"I went ahead and chose fabric over leather and it’s so soft."
- Clark S., Skinny Fat Sofa
"This couch is used everyday and it's holding up very well (much better than our old sofa from a national chain furniture store). I will be honest & say I baby the furniture because I love it so much and usually keep a blanket or a cover over it. Much of that has to do with having an old cat who occasionally pukes and that pet hair gets stuck in the fabric (Graham Charcoal). My guests are just lucky its not the 70s and I don't have access to covering it in vinyl to preserve it forever. My only changes would be a different fabric due to the pets (not that I don't love the feel & look but you live & learn)."
- Abby, Tyler Condo Sofa
"The fabric was a tough choice but I definitely recommend the Marlow. It has a much nicer look in my opinion since it has separate tones woven in. lovely touch."
- Carmen H., Kaden Loveseat
Caring for BenchMade Modern fabrics
BenchMade Modern offers the following guidelines for caring for their fabrics and materials:
- Cleaning Code W means that your piece can be cleaned with water-based cleaning solvents.
- Cleaning Code S means that your piece can be cleaned only with a dry-cleaning solvent. DO NOT use a water based cleaner.
- Cleaning Code WS means that your piece can be cleaned with either a water based solvent or a mild water free dry-cleaning solvent.
Like most online furniture stores, BenchMade Modern allows you to order fabric swatches to test out their fabrics before committing to one fully. You can order from several different swatch bundles, including their Whites, Greys, & Blacks collection, Vibrant Colors collection, and Premium Leathers.

Maiden Home says this about the quality of fabrics they use:
"When editing our assortment, we seek out beauty, softness and durability. You’ll find our fabrics offer a great feel and beautiful drape while standing up to your lifestyle. All our fabrics meet the industry’s highest marks for durability, including:
- Abrasion Resistance: With 18,000 double-rubs and above, our fabrics are designed to hold up to heavy-duty residential use.
- Pilling: With pill ratings of 3 and above, our fabrics won't develop unsightly pills with daily wear."
Maiden Home's FAQ page says this about the fabric variations to expect from customized furniture:
"Fabric dyelots may vary: Slight differences in texture, color or appearance among fabrics (and leathers) may be found, for example between swatches and furniture pieces."
In terms of fabric staining, the FAQ page says this:
"Our Performance fabrics feature Crypton® Home, a completely non-toxic, GREENGUARD Gold certified treatment for stain resistance."
Taking care of Maiden Home fabric
Maiden Home gives advice on how to take care of their fabrics:
"Here are our tips to keep your piece looking its best:
- Vacuum monthly to remove dirt, dust and pet hair–these can cause fabric to wear faster.
- Flip and rotate removable cushions twice monthly for even wear. When flipping, give them a good shake-down (beat them together from either end) to move fibers and feathers around and ensure even distribution.
- Avoid contact with items that may transfer color (newspaper, brand-new jeans)."
Dune Sofa specific care tips
If you own a Dune Sofa, here is the tailored advice for its fabric upkeep:
"The Dune was designed for easy maintenance. All fabric can be removed and machine washed, including body fabric and seat and back cushion covers.
The slipcover is upholstered in Performance Washed Linen, which has the same stain resistance qualities as our other Performance fabrics. Liquid spills will bead up on its surface, and it can be easily spot cleaned using a cleaning solution of mild detergent and water. Blot, do not rub or brush excessively as that may damage the fibers.
Performance Washed Linen can also be washed in your washing machine. The slipcover should be washed alone. For best results, machine wash cold and tumble dry low or hang dry."
You can easily order up to 5 free swatches from Maiden Home's website.

- Mod velvet
- Textured twist

Interior Define's website says this about the quality of their fabrics:
"Our fabric assortment includes a variety of natural and synthetic materials. While we select durable and high-quality materials, slight differences in texture, color, or appearance among fabrics (and leathers) may occur between production runs. This is normal, and not considered defective. We work closely with our supply chain partners to insure each production run falls within our approved variance range."
Caring for Interior Define fabrics
"Routine vacuuming or light brushing is recommended. Use the upholstery attachment and crevice tool of your vacuum to remove loose particles. We recommend this at least once or twice a month. This will prevent build-up of dust and grime which can damage the fabric over time. Avoid long exposure to direct sunlight, which may cause fading. Tight, attached seat and back cushions will naturally stretch and wrinkle with use. You can easily restore the appearance by smoothing the surface and tucking excess fabric into the sides of the seat or back."
"Blot spills immediately with a clean, absorbent white cloth. Blot from the outside to the middle of the affected area to prevent rings. Spot cleaning can cause a ring or fading. It is best to have the entire piece or cushion casing cleaned by a professional upholstery cleaning service to ensure uniform results. If you decide to spot clean on your own, refer to the spot code below to determine the correct type of product to use. If a type of cleaner is advised, pretest a small, inconspicuous area before proceeding. Do not use too much water or solvent. Rub gently, do not scrub."

I know I've answered this question before, but the team here at Knoji recently received our very own sofa from Burrow to review ourselves! So here's our updated, firsthand review.
A material world: Burrow fabric review
Burrow prides themselves on creating the majority of their furniture and furniture components in the U.S. The same thing goes for their fabrics. Burrow's fabrics are listed as being free from harmful chemicals and are naturally stain-resistant as well.
Their fabrics are made of Olefin, aka polypropylene, which is "virtually un-stainable," according to the company.
While we haven't spilled anything on our Burrow sofa yet *knocks on wood* I did once lay upon the sofa with a particularly old pair of Converse on and was immediately reprimanded by the rest of the office. Thankfully for me, no stains.
On their website, Burrow talks a lot about how much they've tested their fabrics. They've spent most of their time testing the stain resistance (more on that later), and the durability of their fabrics.
According to Burrow:
The current fabric testing used in the industry is called the “double rub” test. This is where the fabric is pulled taut and loaded onto a machine. Small discs of worsted wool or wire mesh are continually rubbed against the fabric. The fabric is inspected every few thousand “double rubs” for wear and tear, and the test ends when two yarns break or when there is a noticeable change in appearance.
They also used a lab to test out wear and tear from animal scratches, and found that their fabrics can sustain over 200 scratches from a large animal in the exact same spot without showing wear and tear, and over 2,000 scratches from a small animal in the exact same spot without showing wear and tear.
Of course, we only have the one couch to test — and we've only had it for a month. So, I did some digging online, and found a few Reddit customer reviews of Burrow's fabric. I decided to give my own review of the reviews, for fun:
“My hangnail snagged the fabric on the first night. Felt pretty cheap and the stitching looked a little suspect.”
Ok, sir. I have more than a few hangnails (I'm gorgeous, I know) and I can safely say that I have not snagged a hangnail one time on our Burrow sofa.
Also, some Reddit users were reporting a chemical-like smell when unboxing their furniture, but it “usually went away shortly.”
I honestly did not notice a smell when unboxing or putting together out Burrow sofa. May have been the fact that our office is a large open room, but still, no smell.
Burrow fabric swatches
You are able to request fabric swatches from Burrow, which might truly be the only way to get a feel for the fabrics in person. You'll have to scroll to the bottom of their homepage, and click on swatches.
Burrow also has multiple showrooms along the East Coast, if you're more of a "see it in person" kind of shopper.
Caring for Burrow fabric
According to Burrow's blog, their fabrics can be cleaned "with almost any household cleaner—even pure bleach will not damage the fabric."
Burrow's fabrics aren't dyed — the thread is colored when it's being made. Which means you can even use bleach to clean your Burrow furniture, and the color won't be affected.
I rated Burrow's fabric a 4/5.

Rove Concept says they use the finest quality leather, cashmeres, wools, and tweeds.
Like having a lot of options? You're in luck. Rove Concepts has 30 different materials to choose from and three different collections: Rove Classics, Kure, and Sandro.

"Dust with a dry cloth and vacuum for regular maintenance. If stains become apparent, blot stains immediately and wipe surface with a lightly dampened cloth and mild detergent. Do not spot clean; wipe the entire surface area and then dry with a clean cloth. Do not use saddle soap, abrasive cleaners or detergents or ammonia. If necessary, use non-abrasive leather cleaner but spot test to ensure there will be no discoloration. If the stain or blemish is still present, please consult a furniture specialist."
For other fabrics
Vacuum regularly with an upholstery attachment. Flip, rotate and fluff removable cushions regularly to ensure even wear and increase longevity. Feather and down cushions have excellent recovery, but much like down comforters, pillows need to be fluffed frequently to restore their loft. Some feather loss is normal. Vacuuming with an upholstery attachment between the fabric casings and cushions will help prevent feathers from poking through the fabric. To minimize fading, avoid placing your upholstered furniture in direct sunlight. Dark fabrics and natural fibers like cotton are most susceptible to fading. An annual professional cleaning will keep your upholstered furniture looking its best.
Treat stains immediately for the best results. Blot up as much of the spill as possible with a clean, dry, white cloth. Don't rub. For small stains, use warm distilled water and blot up the stain with a clean cloth. For large or stubborn stains, we recommend consulting a furniture specialist for professional care.
For Sandro brand fabrics only (Modern Tweed, Classic Tweed, Vintage Velvet, New Velvet, Performance Weave, Linen Weave, Plush Weave, and, Modern Felt), you may use Folex® Instant Carpet Spot Remover or Crypton® Purple or Gold Upholstery Stain Remover, which are safe to use on all of our Sandro brand fabrics. Upon use, continue to apply cleaner sparingly and blot until the stain no longer transfers onto the cloth. This may take several attempts. When you’ve removed as much of the stain as possible, blot any remaining cleaner from the fabric. If your spot cleaner recommends a water rinse, apply a small amount of distilled water to the stained area and blot to remove. Tap water may stain or discolor the fabric due to its mineral content. Use a hair dryer on the lowest heat setting to evenly dry the fabric and prevent moisture rings. Be sure to spot test to ensure that there will be no discoloration. If the stain or blemish is still present, please consult a furniture specialist."
Lorinda Anne's review gave 5 stars, but noted the fabric being a little nubby:
"Ordering from rove concepts was super easy. We had a limited space issue for our sectional and rove was one of the only places we found a great looking sectional that's under 100". The item shipped quickly and we were allowed to pick our delivery day and time window which was super convenient. We love our sofa, super comfy, fits perfectly, My only issue is that the fabric is a little bit more nubby than I wanted, but it's still a super high quality piece!"
Donna Gustafson's review also gave 5 stars, and praised the quick fabric swatch delivery time:
"I never, ever thought I would order a large piece of furniture (a sofa) from an on-line source - until I found Rove. The fabric samples I requested arrived within days, and the customer service follow-up was impressive. The site is well-designed, but even better are the detailed descriptions of the piece - so important to me in making a decision to order a sofa without "seeing" or "sitting"."
Britt Benston's review gave 3 stars, and said the fabric was not as good as expected:
"Good, tasteful looks. Below average quality fabric and construction.
We did local pickup of the Finley Sectional sofa and so had to attach the legs. The holes didn't line up so had to drill new ones. So there was a persistent squeak for a few months when you sit down because some of the screws didn't go in perfectly straight. Then the Performance Weave fabric pilled badly. We've had to comb the pills out twice, a process. Last, it has a bad design flaw on the seam in the middle of the seat of the sofa (non-chaise) part. Since the upholstery velcroes on the underside in two places, where it doesn't velcro, there's always a big rumple in the upholstery on top. It can be smoothed but it doesn't stay at all. Looks and feels loose there and wrinkles elsewhere, too."

Capsule fabric customer reviews
As always, the best way to find out what the fabric is like at Capsule is to look to past customers for their experiences. Here's what we found:
"Just love this sofa. I have a big family and we all fit comfortably. It's firm, so looks a lot cleaner than some other sofas. And the fabric seems sturdy too and has yet to pill despite the amount of love it gets!"
- Jessica K., Frey Sofa
"In terms of fabric, the oatmeal is thin and light so we have already stained it."
- Katherine W., Kellan Sectional Sofa in Oatmeal
"Gray tweed is a very cool shade of gray and lighter than it looks online - almost has a purple tint to it. Great big, durable, comfy couch otherwise."
- Mackenzie A., Kellan Sectional Sofa in Gray Tweed
"When looking at the fabric samples that were sent, most of them were thin and did not have a backing to them, which would cause the material to roll. However, everything is lovely and is wearing well considering I've only had the items a few months. I was pleased to find such great design at an affordable price and to have furniture that didn't fall apart even though it was more affordable."
- Caitlin M., Freeman Sofa
Caring for Capsule fabrics
As far as cleaning your Capsule sofas or other seating, they offer this advice:
For leather, you apparently only need to clean it occasionally, thanks to Capsule's careful process of preservation. When you do need to clean, wipe down the leather with a warm, damp cloth and dry completely to remove dust and dirt. For the use of leather cleaning products, be sure that the product is designed for full grain leather.
Make sure to keep your leather furniture away from lengthy periods of sunlight exposure. This may lead to discoloration and weakening of the leather and the wooden frame.
For the leather chair, use a soft and dry cloth to clean the chair for regular maintenance. If the chair is stained, wipe up the stain with a dry cloth quickly, or use a small amount of leather cleaner on a soft sponge or cloth, and wipe the affected area gently.
For slip covers and fabric Capsule recommends professional cleaning only. You may brush or vacuum your furniture to remove dirt and dust. For other upholstered products, you can use water to clean suede products and light foam cleaner for all other fabrics.
In summary, based on many of the reviews I looked at, I'm going to rate Capsule a little lower on the fabric quality scale. That being said, it is cheaper than a lot of the other players in the market, so it might be a worthy trade-off for many shopper.
